Four arrested after the two deaths in Hulhumalé last night

Maldives Police Service has said that four people have been arrested following the death of two young people last night in Hulhumalé and they are conducting a search of a location.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Shifan said that the police are investigating the two deaths last night as two crimes that are connected and they have currently have four people in custody in relation to the crime.

Superintendent Shifan said that the four people have been in police custody for about four hours and they are being questioned.

He said that they are also conducting a search at a residence in Hulhumalé regarding the two deaths and have found "party drugs" at the location.

Although drugs have been found at the search location, Superintendent Shifan said that it is early to say if the two deaths last night were connected to drugs.

Media Official of the Hulhumalé Hospital, Ashiya Solih said that a 22-year-old man was brought to the hospital around 8:30 p.m. last night followed by a 21-year-old man. Both from the island of Thimarafushi. The 22-year-old was dead on arrival. And the 21-year-old man is in recovery.

The other person brought to the hospital last night was 18-year-old Fathimath Sama.

Previously, it was reported that she died after drowning but Sun Media has now confirmed that her death is related to drowning. Hulhumalé Hospital said that she too was dead on arrival.

The bodies of the two young people who died last night is in the custody of the police at this time.
