President of Dhiddhoo Council suspended

President of the Haa Alifu Dhiddhoo Island Council, Mohamed Haashim has been suspending for releasing information that was not released by the Housing Ministry regarding the Housing Units built on the island by the Ministry.

In letter sent to Haashim from the Local Government Authority (LGA) said that the suspension was decided in a board meeting today.

The letter said that Haashim was suspended for sending a letter that reflects that the Council will issue a different list of people who won housing from the Housing Unit from the Housing Ministry after the Housing Ministry issued a list.

LGA said that they have received concerns that Haashim has talked in a way that could create conflict among the people from a position to be an example to the people and smearing state institutes.

And the LGA suspended him until the investigations into those concerns. He would not be receiving his salary or benefits for the duration of the suspension.

The suspended President of the Dhiddhoo Council, Haashim told Sun Media that in May this year, the Housing Minister ordered the Council to inform the people a list of people who won the housing units.

But the Council then ended term and changed without doing it, according to Haashim. But the Housing Ministry asked to withdraw the list.

Haashim said that after withdrawing the the list, the Ministry re-issued a list with the names changed to form numbers alone and the list contained a number of misleading information.

He said that people with higher number of points did not get the flats but he has not spoken in a way that a new list would be issued.
