We will first reveal those responsible for nude pics and videos: Police

Police have decided to reveal ten out of twenty people accused of having produced the nude pictures and videos leaked on social media and used to blackmail since 2010.

Superintendent of Police Mohamed Riyaz said that this involves about 70 videos, which were used by the ten accused people to blackmail Members of Parliament and senior officials of the government.

Details of the ten people will be revealed today.

Riyaz said that the remaining ten people are included in the nude photos and videos, and that details of some of these people cannot be revealed just yet.

Four people in Male’ and ten in Addu were arrested following two months’ intelligence operations subsequent to the case being reported in October 2010.

They were all released in 2011 after investigations.

Riyaz said that money collected through blackmailing was being transferred to a shop in Addu through a shop in Male’, and that the blackmailers also often met with people to collect money.

Riyaz said that incidents of people being blackmailed on social media are reported even now, but he did not provide any details.
