Qaumee Party has said that the Maldives will suffer irreparable damage if legal action is not taken against former President Mohamed Nasheed.
In a press statement issued today, the party strongly condemned Nasheed’s call to get a group together to attack and fight the Police, and urged the relevant authorities to produce Nasheed in court and give him the rightful punishment.
In this first statement issued by Qaumee Party in a long time, they said that Nasheed is driven by politics to encourage crime, and destroy the social well-being of the country.
Qaumee Party also said that public incitement of violence, and public calls to attack the Police should not be tolerated, and described such activities by an ex-President as cowardly and of low-grade.
“No person who loves Islam would conduct such low-grade activities which rob the society of good discipline, and are disrespectful of the holy month of Ramadan.”
Qaumee Party also urged Nasheed to resort to the Constitution and laws to resolve political conflicts, instead of taking to the streets and inciting violence.
