State funeral to be held at Galolhu Cemetery for Lance Corporal Haleem

A state funeral will be held for the late Lance Corporal Adam Haleem at Galolhu Cemetery in Male’.

Haleem was stabbed to death last night while on his way to report to duty in K. Kaashidhoo.

His body has now been transported to IGM Hospital.

Sub-Inspector of Police Hassan Haneef said that the funeral prayer will be held after Asr-prayer at Islamic Centre, after which people can pay their respects.

A state burial will then take place at Galolhu Cemetery.

Haleem’s wife, three-month old infant, and parents have arrived in Male’.

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, Vice President Mohamed Waheeddeen, Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz and several Police officers met with the family to express condolences when they arrived in Male’.

Haleem was murdered at around 00:30 last night. He was stabbed in four places on his body, and died while being treated at the Kaashidhoo Health Centre.

Mohamed Samaah of Suvasa, Kaashidhoo, has been arrested following Haleem’s murder.

Samaah had earlier been detained following an assault, and was transferred to house arrest yesterday following a Court order. Haleem was attacked near Samaah’s house.
