Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has sued three companies owned by Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim’s Villa Group for USD 130 million.
Villa Holidays has been sued USD 35.66 million in lease payment and fines for a plot of land leased for hotel development from H. Dh. Hanimaadhoo.
The plot of land was originally leased to Qasim’s daughter, Fathimath Thasleem in 2007. The ownership was later transferred to Villa Holidays.
Another of Villa’s companies, Gazeera Private Limited has been sued USD 17.31 million for lease payment and fines for G. Dh. Gazeera.
Villa’s Maanenfushi Investment Private Limited has been fined USD 77.82 million in lease payment and fines for R. Maanenfushi.
The three lawsuits total USD 130.78 million.
