Foreigner arrested from airport with narcotics

A foreigner who travelled to Maldives from Bangladesh has been arrested trying to smuggle 71 grams of narcotics into the country.

Customs reported in a statement released this Monday that the foreigner was arrested on August 9 from Velana International Aiport.

He is a 23-year-old man of Bangladeshi nationality.

Customs reported the narcotics was discovered after the actions of the man aroused the suspicion of officers at Passenger Clearance at the airport.

The narcotics were found in his luggage, inside a pair of sandals. The 690 pills weighed 71 grams with the packing.

The substance tested positive for amphetamine.

Police have the man in custody and are investigating the case.
