Maldives Police Service has said that the man found injured last night was the victim of a mugging by a group of people after accusing him of theft and he has now been released after treatment.
Police media official told Sun Media today that the mugging took place around a.m. last night near the Mahchangolhi cemetery.
It is believed that the mugging took place during a fight after his phone was took from him after accusing him of theft form a house in the area. While the mugging took place near the cemetery, he was found injured near the mosque on Maaveyo Magu.
Information Officer of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Ahmed Mausoom told Sun Media that the man brought to the hospital last night did not have any serious injuries and was released after treatment.
It is unclear if any arrests were made regarding the incident.
There has been a series of gang attacks in the capital city in the last week. A 24-year-old died last night in treatment following an attack inside a café.
