Police have cordoned off the area around Criminal Court and denied access to any reporter from entering the court.
Special Operations officers denied access to the reporter from “Sun” this Wednesday morning, when he went to sign in his name in the attendance list for day’s court cases.
The reporter told the SO officers that Criminal Court was a place that reporters and private citizens went to receive services daily, and that he wished to enter the court to receive services he was due as a reporter.
The SO officers repeatedly stated that no one was allowed access to the court, and asked the reporter to leave the area.
When asked for a comment regarding the incident, Criminal Court’s information officer Ahmed Mohamed Manik said there was nothing they could do about it if that was what the police wanted.
Police media official stated that the Criminal Court area was cordoned off for security reasons, and that no one was allowed access to the court.
The court has been closed off for the remand hearing of Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon – a key leader of the opposition coalition.
He is under investigation for alleged bribery of fellow parliamentarians.
