Dhidhdhoo MP Latheef leaves PPM

Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed has resigned from the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

In his letter of resignation to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, MP Latheef wrote that though elected to the People’s Majlis as an independent candidate, he joined PPM with the hope of serving the people of Dhidhdhoo as well as the entire country. He said he also joined

PPM for the purpose of bringing the dreams of the Maldivian youth of development and progress to reality by working for it both within People’s Majlis and beyond.

Latheef said he feels the decisions made by PPM inside People’s Majlis during the past two-to-three years was contrary to the wellbeing of the youth and the country as a whole.

He said he had abided by all the vip-lines issued by PPM’s Parliamentary Group, but realized the people didn’t approve of PPM’s decisions and the government’s policies from the results of the recent Local Council Election.

Latheef had been one of the PPM parliamentary members who signed the petition for a no-confidence motion against Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed.
