Murrath and Hana sentenced to death

Ahmed Murrath, 29, of Maafannu Masroora and Fathimath Hana, 18, of Rihaab, Sh. Goidhoo have been sentenced to death after being convicted of the murder of lawyer Ahmed Najeeb.

The verdict was issued at the trial at Criminal Court today.

Both Murrath and Hana have confessed to the crime in Court.

They were both charged with first degree murder.

Najeeb’s heirs had asked for death penalty for the people responsible for Najeeb’s murder.

The State had asked Murrath and Hana if the statements given by them in relation to the murder were forced in any way, to which they both replied that the statements were true and had not been forced.
