Alifushi in darkness following blackout

Raa atoll Alifushi has lost power island-wide following an issue with a generator on the island.

Member of the Alifushi Island Council, Ibrahim Zaheen said that the island has been experiencing blackouts since 10:30 a.m. this morning and after 45 minutes of uninterrupted service this evening, the island lost power again and has not been restored since.

With a population of 2800 people, Alifushi uses two generators of 600 and 400 kW.

Councilman Zaheen said that electricity cannot be restored to the island tonight according to the Alifushi FENAKA Station. He said that the blackout occured due to an issue with the radior of the 400 kW generator.

Zaheen said that the remaining 600 kW generator is not sufficient to power the entire island.

Being forced to say in total darkness, the people of the island has gathered at the Island Council office in protest.

Aside from Alifushi, Gaafu Shaalu Nadelaa also lost power this afternoon.
