HRCM and Police Integrity Commission have not yet provided info: CNI

Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) has said that Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) and Police Integrity Commission have been requested to provide information to CNI; however they have so far not done so.

CNI member Ahmed Saeed (Gaha) made this statement at a press conference held at Muleeaage today.

“We have not been able to obtain information from some groups, including HRCM and Police Integrity Commission. Letters have been sent out requesting information, on 2 and 3 July,” Saeed said.

Saeed noted that both Commissions have indicated that they are investigating issues pertaining to the transfer of power.

He added that reports of these Commissions, if shared with CNI, would be of great help to CNI.

Members of CNI have visited the locations where incidents took place on the night of 6 February and morning of 7 February, including Artificial Beach, MNDF Headquarters, MNBC building, and MDP Haruge.

They have also collected videos, photos and TV stations’ video footage relating to the events as evidence, and they are currently under investigation.

Members of HRCM mentioned in a press conference yesterday that the CNI had not requested for any information.
