Mohamed Zahid has been appointed to Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Zahid took the oath of office in a function held at President’s Office.
The oath was administered by Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Areef.
Zahid was then presented with his letter of appointment by President Yameen.
Zahid had been serving as Deputy Minister at Ministry of Gender and Family before his appointment to HRCM.
His nomination for HRCM was approved by People’s Majlis last Tuesday, June 13. 57 MPs present voted in approval of the appointment while only five MPs voted against the appointment and 5 MPs abstained from voting.
He will be filling the seat left vacant after the resignation of former Vice President of HRCM, Shifaq Mufeed.
