The MP for the South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof has been freed after serving his prison sentence of ten months and 24 days.
His father, Mohamed Hassaan confirmed the MP’s return to home to Sun Media.
Criminal Court sentenced MP Mahloof to prison after convicting him of two counts of obstruction of police duty. Mahloof was sentenced to four months and 24 days on the first charge and a six months on the second charge.
After returning home, MP Mahloof said that is very happy to return home and has expressed gratitude to all his supporters through Facebook. He said that he would meet his supporters tonight.
When the six month sentence against the MP was appealed, the High Court said that there is no legal or procedural standing to change the sentence by the Criminal Court.
He was found guilty of setting aside barricades at the crossroads between Boduthakurufaanu Magu and Mohamed Ismail Dhidhi Goalhi during protests at different parts of Male’ City on the night of 25 March 2015, and forcefully entering an area cordoned off by the police.
