Doctor falls ill amid flu outbreak, new doctor sent to Hirilandhoo

The doctor at the Th. Hirilandhoo Health Center has fallen sick amid the influenza A outbreak in the island, reports Hirilandhoo Council.

Hirilandhoo Council reported this Wednesday that the 1,200-people island was in crisis. The council said only seven students attended school this Wednesday, and few people went to work.

President of Hirilandhoo Council, Mohamed Jalal said the doctor at Hirilandhoo Health Center got infected with the influenza virus, and that the doctor at Kandudhoo was sent to Hirilandhoo treat the patients last Tuesday.

Jalaal said another doctor and nurse was sent from Th. Atoll Hospital this Wednesday, and was now serving those infected in the island.

Jalaal said more than 30 people have been treated for flu over the last 48 hours, 15 of them children.

He said that test results from six people on the island showed they were infected with Influenza A.
