Man arrested smuggling 7.1 kilos of narcotics into Maldives

Authorities have arrested a foreigner caught smuggling 7.1 kilos of narcotics into Maldives.

Maldives Customs reports the narcotics was smuggled in by a 26-year-old Bangladesh man who flew into Maldives from Bangladesh last Monday, June 5.

Customs said the man had caught the attention of passenger clearance officers when he disembarked from the plane, and that the narcotics was discovered inside a cardboard box in his luggage.

The narcotics were hidden inside six plastic plates sealed with tape.

It tested positive for cannabis.

The man is now under police detention.
