Fenaka employee fired after overcharging a household by thousands

Fenaka Corporation has fired the Assistant Manager at its Maduvvari Branch, Easa Hussain Fulhu for gross negligence after he allegedly prepared an electricity bill overcharging a household by thousands of Rufiyaa.

The issue arose when Hiyaavahige of R. Maduvvari received an electricity bill of MVR 44,382.55 for the month of May.

Fenaka Corporation issued a statement last Monday in which it announced Hussain Fulhu was fired due to gross negligence in the course of duty, and due to the threat of disreputable damage to the corporation if he continued to work for the corporation.

Fenaka stated the mistake took place due to negligence because Hussain Fulhu overrode all warnings by the automatic billing system during multiple stages when the reading for month of May was much higher than the reading for previous month. Fenaka said Hussain Fulhu overrode all the warnings manually and printed the bill.

The corporation said it has now completed its investigation into the “Fenaka Bodu Bill” conspiracy making the rounds in social media.

“The huge bill to a household which usually pays 6/- or 7/- for electricity is due to Easa Hussain Fulhu printing and sending the bill in violation of the standards and regulations set by the corporation for entering readings and processing bills,” wrote Fenaka.
