Maldivian found dead at house in India

A Maldivian has been found dead inside a house in Trivandrum, India.

Consul at the Maldivian Consulate in India, Ali Adam said that a man over the age of 30 was found dead this morning when the people checked up on him when he did not wake up and was taken to the hospital around 11:10 a.m.

The Consulate said that the man was awake for the pre-dawn meal (Suhoor) for the fast of Ramadan according to the family. The man was also taken to GG Hospital four days ago with high fever and chickenpox.

Consul Ali Adam said that the man who died today was initially taken to GG Hospital but with the hospital mortuary being full, the body was temporarily transferred to a mobile mortuary.

And being Sunday, a public holiday in India, the funeral had to be pushed back due to some delays in official procedure in such cases.

Indian law demands a postmortem procedure to all deaths, including accidents, outside of a hospital.

But if a regular patient receiving treatment dies at home, the postmortem procedure can be skipped with the permission of the patient’s doctor.

The Consul said that the body was transferred to the medical college mortuary at 7 p.m. today and will be buried after an autopsy.

Maldivian Consulate in India is providing support for the family.
