Maldives Transport Authority has launched an investigation into the collision last night where a speed launch traveling out of Summer Island Resort with 14 people collided with a boat.
Director General of the Transport Authority, Abdul Naasir told Sun Media today that while the Marine Police is investigating the incident, the Transport Authority has also launched it’s own investigation.
Abdul Naasir said that if the police investigation finds any negligence, steps would be taken accordingly.
He said that the Transport Authority will take action against those responsible in last night’s incident same as it has done in the past.
While 14 people were injured in the collision, 11 people are still in treatment at ADK Hospital.
Two of those people are on ventilators and one of them has gone through surgery for damage sustained to the head while the other has internal bleeding.
Today, the Maldives Police Service said that they have arrested the captain and the crew of the boat involved in the collision with the launch travelling from Summer Island Resort.
Police said that the four crew members are expatriates and have been transferred to Immigration due an issue with their VISAs. And the boat captain has been remanded to police custody for ten days to investigate further.
