Ministry: Saying 70 percent people don’t fast is false, the islanders fast

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has said that the claims by Sheikh Ali Zaid saying 70 percent people of a certain island do not fast is false.

The Ministry summoned Sheikh Zaid yesterday and questioned him acquired the name of the island.

Coordinator of the Islamic Ministry, Mohamed Ahsan told Sun Media today that the Sheikh did not receive the information from any official source and the people of the alleged island do in fact fast in Ramadan.

Since the information is false, the Ministry do not want to name the island against which the accusation were made.

In his lecture at the “Viyafaarivehinge Miskiy” after the Salat al-Asr yesterday, Sheikh Zaid said that when his visited on his visit to the south, 70 percent of the people on the island does not fast and he was surprised that people cook and eat in Ramadan like a regular month.

A number of people have been criticizing the Sheikh for his remarks and say that it is not something that is believable.
