Bridge columns rise above sea level

The columns of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge being built between Malé City and Hulhulé has starting emerging from the water.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu tweeted last night with photos saying that the work on the bridge is “progressing as per schedule.”

The most notable picture in the tweet is of a column of the bridge above the water.

A column of the approach bridge from Malé City was seen above water on 17 May 2017. That night, at a government coalition function, Minister Dr. Muizzu said that though only one column was seen that day, work is being done on numerous columns at the same time.

“With God’s will by the end of the year all columns will be completed (and) seen above the sea.” Dr. Muizzu said.
