Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor, who is currently serving time has requested a transfer to house arrest.
A letter sent to Maldives Correctional Service and the Police by the Adheeb’s legal team requested that he be transferred to house arrest until the end of Ramadan.
In the letter, Adheeb said that he has consulted a doctor multiple times due to health issues and noted that he has the dangerous eye disease, glaucoma. The letter indicates that his health condition is dropping day by day.
The letter also notes that other inmates imprisoned on terrorism charges have been transferred to house arrest for the month of Ramadan.
Former Defence Minister Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim and the President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla, both sentenced to prison have been transferred to house arrest for Ramadan.
