Maldives Police Service has said that they have seized over MVR 2 million worth of drugs in police operations conducted on Friday and Saturday.
At a press conference held at Iskandharu Koshi today, police said that a large quantities were seized in the three operations that were conducted over the weekend.
Speaking at the conference, the Head of the Drug Enforcement Agency of the Maldives Police Service, Moosa Ali said that in the operation conducted on Friday morning, 29 bullets of heroin weighing 177 grams was seized from a Maldivian man who was smuggling the drugs inside his body, when he arrived in the country from India.

Talking about the operation on Saturday, the Deputy Head, Aminath Suzi said that Maldives Post Service reported drugs in a number of parcels they received through post. And when the police looked into it, they found 335 tablets of illegal medication and 24 grams of drugs in film canisters and 1.6 grams of heroin.
With suspicions of another’s involvement, a controlled delivery operation was conducted after which a 20-year-old man was arrested.
The second operation conducted on Saturday was following information received regarding two Pakistan nationals visiting the country selling drugs.
And so two women from Pakistan of the ages 29 years and 26 years and two local men of the ages 19 years and 25 years, was arrested at a café.
The Head of the Drug Enforcement Department said that USD 14,000 were found on one of the women and when the place they were renting was searched 296 grams of drugs were found which later tested positive for heroin.
Police said that the value of the drugs in total is at MVR 2,930,300 and the cases are being investigated further.
