Velezinee given 14 days to present herself at police hq

Former member of Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Aisthath Velezinee has been given a 14-day ultimatum to present herself at Maldives Police Service headquarters.

Maldives Police Service said in a statement it issued this Tuesday that it was looking for Velezinee for questioning regarding a case under investigation by the authority, and to provide Velezinee the opportunity to respond to the allegation against her and make her statement.

Velezinee has been given 14 days, starting from this Tuesday, in which to present herself at the MPS headquarters.

MPS said that if Velezinee failed to present herself, the case would be sent through to prosecution for a trial in absentia based on the evidence collected so far.

The summons comes after Ministry of Islamic Affairs declared Velezinee an apostate after she shot a Facebook Live video of herself in which she appeared to claim to be a prophet.
