Qasim’s remand extended

The remand of the Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim has been extended by four days.

The extension to the remand was made at a hearing held at the Criminal Court today at 4:30 p.m. Qasim was brought to the court four the hearing and he was taken back to Dhoonidhoo after the hearing.

Qasim was arrested in the late hours of 21 April under a court order which said that the JP leader influenced MPs to gain 42 signature to submit a no confidence motion against the Speaker of the Parliament.

Qasim, who is also the MP for the Maamigili constituency, was arrested previously arrested a well in suspicion of bribing MPs in relation to the no confidence vote against Speaker Abdulla Maseeh and influencing MPs in relation to the no confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

The state brought forth three charges against Qasim. They are bribery, influencing official procedure and influencing voters.
