Nihan: I condemn actions of opposition during election Parliamentary Group Leader of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Vilimale' MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has condemned what says are action by the opposition to influence the Local Council Election. Nihan said former President Mohamed Nasheed attempted to influence the election through his tweets. He alleged that opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) called out for some of the ballot boxes to be 'hijacked".

Dispute at Kaalaafaanu School polling station; police intervene Police have intervened after a dispute at the Kaalaafaanu School polling station when one ballot box was closed as voting continued at some of the other ballot boxes at the station. Police have closed the school gates and barred anyone with no business there from entering the premises. The polling station has three South Henveyru ballot boxes. One of the ballot boxes have been closed while voting continues at the other two ballot boxes.

Low voter turnout rate in Male' City. There are three ballot boxes for South Machangolhi. 920 voters were registered at the ballot box in Giyaasuddin Internation School but only about 40 people voted. 862 voters were registered at each of the two South Machangolhi ballot boxes kept in Billabong High School, but only 407 voters cast their vote into one of the ballot boxes and only 353 to the other ballot box by 5:30 pm.

Election Commission announces extra time will be given at polling stations which faced delays due to various reasons. Voting officially began at 8 am. But some polling stations faced delays of up to three hours. Member of EC, Ahmed Akram said voters will be compensated for the lost time.

Stations which began voting after two hours will close two hours after official closing time.

President of EC, Ahmed Sulaiman reports there will be no room for doubt regarding the authenticity of the election. Speaking in an interview for TVM's live coverage of Election Day, Sulaiman said observers this time included both local and international officials.

President: Not expecting any major issues with election No major issues are expected with the ongoing Local Council Election, reports President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Speaking to press after casting his vote at the Center for Higher Secondary Education polling station this Saturday morning, President Yameen said he had been receiving some complaints over the election, which are being relayed to the Elections Commission through the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

But it doesn’t seem likely there will be any major issues. The Elections Commission is very well prepared. The date for election has gone through a number of changes. I have heard of small issues, but god willing, they won’t turn out to be major issues.

EC: Complaints of fake printed ballot papers Elections Commission reports some have been seen handling printed copies of the ballot papers used to the LCE 2017. Member of EC, Ahmed Akram confirmed the reports, but expressed confidence the copies will not be the same quality as the originals.

Kudahuvadhoo Multipurpose Building. Hulhudheli has one ballot box - placed at the Hulhudheli school. 489 people are registered to vote in Hulhudheli - locals and people from other islands registered to vote in Hulhudheli. More than 70 people have reportedly cast their vote so far.

Sulaiman: International observers present across country International election observers and monitors have been sent to polling stations across the country, reports President of Elections Commission, Ahmed Sulaiman. "International observers came at our invitation. We sent invitation to member countries of FEMBoSA as the Chair of FEMBoSA. Individuals from FEMBoSA as well as Europe have come," said Sulaiman.
