ACC: No political influence case related to election so far

No political influence case related to the upcoming Local Council Election has been submitted so far, reports Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Deputy Leader of Adhaalath Party (AP), Ali Zahir has alleged political corruption by the government. He alleges that involving candidates from the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in inaugural ceremonies of different State-run projects were acts of political influence and corruption – designed to influence the outcome of the LCE.

Vice President of ACC, Muawwiz Rasheed reports no such complaint has been filed with the commission. And neither is the commission investigating any such issue.

“ACC will look into any corruption issue which comes to light in connection with the election. No issue related to the election has come yet,” said Muawwiz.

Campaigning has grown intense from both ruling party and opposition parties as it nears election day – May 6.
