State repossess island which houses Ugail’s marine station

State has repossessed the island of Lh. Vavvaru – where Professor Hassan Ugail runs his marine research center - Korallionlab.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Fisheries Agriculture, Hussain Shinan reported to “Sun” this Monday that the island was repossessed by the State due to “irregularities”.

He disclosed no details.

“Sun” has been unable to reach Ugail for a comment regarding the decision.

The team which runs Korallionlab – lead by Ugail – has made huge investments on the island of Vavvaru for international-standard marine research.

Vavvaru was leased by the State in 2013 for a 27-year period.
