Transport: Hulhulé ferry charge cannot be raised

Transport Authority has said that the ferry charge between Malé City and Hulhulé cannot be raised.

Airports Ferry Operators Association (AFOA) has announced the decision to increase the rate for ferry tickets by MVR 1 changing the price from MVR 10 to MVR 11 due to Goods and Service Tax (GST) implementation on airport ferry service starting from 10 May.

Chairman of the Transport Authority, Mahudhee Imad told Sun Media today that the AFOA made the decision without a permit from the Transport Authority and such a price change cannot be made.

“Transport cannot be expensive than 10 Rufiyaa, was not given permission.” Chairman Mahudhee Imad said.

He said that the service being provided is inclusive of the tax and no more can be charged for the service. The Chairman of the Transport Authority said that officials from the AFOA will be summoned for questioning tomorrow.
