Ballot cards start arriving at the islands

Elections Commission has started sending the ballot cards and other items to the islands in preparation for the Local Council Election set for Saturday.

The Elections Commission said that the voting booths and the ballot boxes have been sent to all the islands where ballot boxes are to be placed. The atolls, Noonu, Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani, Alifu Alifu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu have been provided with the necessary items required to the election.

While the transportation of the ballot cards and other materials for the election began today, the officers of the Maldives Police Service providing security for the election are also on the way to the islands.

With 422 ballot boxes to be placed for the Local Council Election, the Elections Commission said that there are 255,987 people eligible to vote in the election.
