Proceedings to move forward against liable state employees in Ibthihaal’s death

Criminal Court has ruled that the cases can proceed against the four government employees charged with negligence in the death of the 3-year-old boy who was found brutally killed in Vaavu atoll Rakeedhoo.

Five government employees were initially charged with negligence following the death of the toddler but at a previous hearing, the court ruled that the case against Ahmed Shuzaadh has no basis to proceed.

At the hearing today, the case is set to proceed against Aminath Shiyaza, Mohamed Rasheed, Mohamed Shakeeb and Lisan Abubakur.

Legal representation of Shiyaaz at the hearing today said that their client did not receive the letter of appointment and agreement noting that those documents are important ot the proceedings. But the judge said that if the documents are deemed as defense evidence, it should be sought by the defense.

Presiding judge on the case, Judge Ahmed Shakeel closed the hearing after scheduling the next hearing to 11 May 2017 to present and debate evidence.
