558 women, 170 men victims of domestic violence in 2016

558 women and 170 men were victims of domestic violence in 2016 alone, reports Family Protection Agency.

Anti-Domestic Violence Act was implemented five years ago.

Statistics show 642 cases of domestic violence was reported last year alone, a significant rise compared to 438 cases of domestic violence reported in 2015.

558 of the victims of domestic violence reported in 2016 were female while 170 of the victims were male.

Most of the cases were of physical violence, followed by verbal violence and sexual violence.

There were also reported cases of coercion.

24 of the victims of domestic violence in 2016 were diagnosed with psychological conditions resultant from the abuse.

27 restraining orders were issued in 2016; 10 of them were emergency orders.

38 of the perpetrators of domestic violence were identified to abuse narcotics; 35 of them male and three of them female.
