Deputy Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) has declared the party now has 54 parliamentarians on their side.
The declaration comes at a time of immense turmoil within parliament, with opposition party parliamentarians announcing an alliance to work together against the government.
Jumhoory Party leader, Maamingili MP Qasim Ibrahim recently declared that 42 parliamentarians have joined the opposition alliance.
MP Adhurey tweeted this Monday afternoon that PPM had 48 votes during the failed no-confidence motion against Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed on March 27, and that PPM now had 54 parliamentarians allied with them.

It is not clear who the additional six parliamentarians are.
PPM’s parliamentary group leader, Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik commented earlier that if PPM parliamentarians were joining the opposition, it was just as likely for opposition parliamentarians to join PPM.
