Umar says Nasheed shedding “crocodile tears” over Qasim

Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed is shedding “crocodile tears” over Jumhoory Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim, says former Minister of Home Affairs, Umar Naseer.

Umar made the comment in response to a tweet by Nasheed regarding the raid on Qasim’s private residence and office headquarters by the police last Sunday evening.

Nasheed tweeted that the raid was unacceptable and that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom should cease “illegal political harassment.”

Nasheed’s tweet also drew criticism from social media activist Ibrahim Luthufy (Sandhaan Luthufy) who questioned action taken by Nasheed during his administration.

Luthufy said in a subsequent tweet that it had been Nasheed who was the cause of the deterioration of democracy in the country, and that Nasheed during his administration “hijacked” Maldivian democracy.
