Senior Education official arrested over attempt to assualt judge

Senior Policy Executive of Ministry of Education, Ibrahim Haneef has been arrested as a suspect in an attempt to cause bodily harm to Shujau Usman, a High Court judge.

“Sun” has been informed Haneef was arrested by police last Tuesday night, before which he was summoned to police headquarters and had his mobile phone seized.

Haneef is close to Vilingili MP Saud Hussain – who recently allied himself with former Maldivian President and ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s ousted leader, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

Both Haneef and Judge Shujau are natives of G. A. Vilingili.

Police, this Wednesday, confirmed it was investigating an attempt to cause physical harm to

Judge Shujau, but did not release any details to the media.

Judge Shujau works at southern branch of High Court, based in Meedhoo, Addu City.

He was escorted to Male’ City under police protection immediately after the assault attempt was reported to the police.

An audio clip has been circulating in social media in which two people speaking in Addu dialect are heard about causing bodily harm to Shujau.
