South Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof has had his prison privileges restored after it was suspended due to allegations he talked about matters of risk to national security during a family phone call.
Mahloof’s prison privileges were suspended on March 29. Maldives Correctional Service had reported then that the privileges would be suspended for a month.
MCS’s information officer, Ahmed Lugmaan reported to “Sun” this Monday that suspension on Mahloof’s prison privileges has now been lifted.
Lugmaan chose not to comment when asked regarding the reason for the lift less than one week into the one-month suspension.
MCS reported Mahloof will now be allowed his family phone calls, family visits and conjugal visits.
Mahloof’s wife, Nazra Naseem said during an earlier interview to “Sun” that Mahloof was penalized for encouraging the no-confidence motion against Speaker of People’s Majlis Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, and appealing to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan to allow him to attend Majlis to vote in support of de-seating Maseeh during a phone call.
Mahloof is serving a six-month and four-month sentence on two separate charges of obstruction of law enforcement. He will finish serving his sentence in June.
