Two seats at the Raa atoll Maduvvari Island Council has been vacated after the President of the Council and another member resigned.
Vice President of the Maduvvari Council, Ibrahim Thasmeel told Sun Media that the President of the Council, Hassan Abdulraheem resigned today. And another member of the council, Nasrulla Hussain resigned on 26 March. No further details on the matter were shared by the Vice President Thasmeel.
Sources say that Hassan Abdulraheem, the President of the council resigned when he secured employment elsewhere. And Nasrulla Hussain vacated his seat on 26 March after his term ended saying that he has no legal standing to remain in the position.
The Local Council Election originally set for 14 January 2017 was pushed back by a court order saying that the current councils will retain until the election.
