Qasim: Was summoned to Police in suspicion of bribery

Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim has said that he was summoned to the Police in suspicion of an attempted bribing of MPs.

Talking to the press after over three hours at the Police HQ, Qasim said that he was being suspected of trying to bribe MPs because of a speech at a function.

Qasim said that at an opposition event, he requested the MPs of the JP who left the party for PPM to rejoin and if they do so, they would be given the JP ticket for the next term of the Parliament.

He said that if someone is seeing the offer as a bribe, they should see it as such but he would not do anything against the law and the Constitution.

The Jumhooree Party Leader said that the investigation is proceeding very good and the Police have given time to speak to the lawyers. He said that things like these happen in the political field and is not a problem.

Qasim’s lawyer and MP for the Thulusdhoo constituency, Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Lawyer Wadde) also spoke to the media saying that the case is over and there won’t be a summoning in relation to this case.

Wadde said that even the Police have learned tonight that Qasim is firmly with the people and he has confidently answered the questions of the investigation.
