Court dismisses Adhaalath Party’s lawsuit over fines

Civil Court has dismissed Adhaalath Party’s lawsuit over fines imposed on the party by Elections Commission.

The court said AP failed to attend the court for hearing scheduled at 9:45 am on Monday despite a summons being sent to the party and without any acceptable reason being offered for the absence.

The lawsuit was therefore dismissed by Civil Court in reference to guideline on court attendance.

EC fined AP over violence which took place during protests held by opposition on February 27, 2015, May 1, 2015 and December, 2016.

AP was fined MVR 69,000 for protests on May 1, 2015 and MVR 75,000 for protests in December, 2016.
