MP Abdulla Riyaz arrested

Former Police Commissioner and the Deputy Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), the MP for Kimbidhoo constituency, Abdulla Riyaz has been arrested.

He was arrested on Maaveyo Magu, his way to main JP hall at Maafannu Kunooz to take part in an event.

The Secretary General of Jumhooree Party, Ahmed Sameer told Sun Media that the Police attempted to confiscate the MP’s phone before arresting him. Although the arrest was made with a court order, Sameer said that it is unclear what Riyaz is being accused of.

Regarding the arrest, the media official of the Police said that Riyaz was arrest regarding an ongoing investigation.

Sources say that the Police are working to acquire a court order for the phone of MP Riyaz.

Riyaz is an active member of the new opposition coalition between former Presidents Maumoon and Nasheed.
