Ameeth to may lose PPM membership

PPM Parliamentary Group has decided to submit a case to dismiss the MP for Maduvvari constituency, Mohamed Ameeth from, who left the Parliament floor before the no-confidence vote against the Speaker, Abdulla Maseeh.

The joint Parliamentary Group of PPM and MDA issued a three-line whip last night to vote in favor of the Speaker retaining his position in Parliament. But Ameeth tweeted last night saying that he would vote with the opposition and today, he joined the opposition MPs in leaving the floor before the vote.

Talking to the press after the vote today, the Leader of the PPM Parliamentary Group, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said that a decision was made at the Parliamentary Group meeting this afternoon to make a request at the party’s disciplinary committee to dismiss Ameeth from the Parliamentary Group and from the party.

As for his reason, Nihan said that Ameeth lack the qualities required of a member of the Parliamentary Group and his actions have compromised friendship and teamwork within the Parliamentary Group.

Aside from Ameeth, the PPM Council decided yesterday to make a request at the disciplinary committee to dismiss the President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from the party as well.

For going against the Parliamentary Group decisions and criticizing the party’s policies, PPM has previously dismissed the memberships of the MP for Kaadhidhoo constituency, Ibrahim Waheed (Lawyer Wadde) and MP for Dhiggaru constituency and son of the PPM PPM, Ahmed Faaris Maumoon.
