Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) has been contracted a MVR 14.3 million project to build jetties in six Maldivian islands.
The contract for the project was signed in a function held at Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure this Sunday morning by Minister of Housing and infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Managing Director of MRDC, Mohamed Nimal.
The islands and the value of contract:
1. B. Fehendhoo: MVR 2.2 million
2. B. Fulhadhoo: MVR 2.2 million
3. M. Rathamandhoo: MVR 2.2 million
4. R. Rasgatheem: MVR 3.3 million
5. V. Fulidhoo: MVR 2.5 million
6. V. Rakeedhoo: MVR 1. 8 million
Speaking to press after signing the contract, Dr. Muizzu said that all six of the islands had very basic jetty facilities riddled with high risk to the citizens of the islands.
“The decision of President Yameen is that quality jetty facilities need to be built as a basic service on all the islands for as long as the people of the islands choose to live there, and that it should be done as soon as possible,” said Muizzu.
Minister said permission has been granted for construction of jetties in A. Dh. Mandhoo and A. A. Himandhoo which also faces similar difficulties. He said documents would be sent to the tender boat to assign a company to build jetties in the two islands soon.
MD of MRDC, Nimal said construction of jetties in the six islands would start soon and made operational before the end of October.
“I am making it a high priority to complete the company’s projects which haven’t either been started or have been interrupted so that they are handed over to respective ministries, as soon as possible,” said Nimal.
Nimal said major projects contracted to MRDC will be completed within the next six to eight months.
