51-year-old woman infected with H1N1 dies

A 51-year-old woman from F. Nilandhoo who tested positive for H1N1 influenza (swine flu) has passed away.

The woman is Fathimath Ismail from Buruneege in F. Nilandhoo.

She passed away last Wednesday night while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male’ City.

Fathimath Ismail was taken to IGMH for complications related to her kidney, but was screened for H1N1 when she showed symptoms of the flu.

The result of the screen had come back positive.

This is the second fatality to result from the H1N1 influenza outbreak in the country this year.

The first fatality had been that of a 26-year-old Maldivian man who died on March 4.

Health Protection Agency reports 82 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus from Maldives so far.
