IGMH: Mother, infant in critical condition after emergency C-section

Both the woman with symptoms of H1N1 influenza (swine flu) who had an emergency C-section performed last Tuesday night and her six-month infant are in critical condition, reports Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

The woman was transported from H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi to Male’ City last Monday after her conditioned worsened.

Director of IGMH’s Media Unit, Ahmed Mausoom reports that the emergency C-section was performed last Tuesday night.

Mausoom reports both the woman and the infant are in critical condition and show no signs of improvement.

Though the woman shows signs of the H1N1 rapidly spreading throughout the country, it has not yet been confirmed whether she has tested positive for the virus.

Mausoom said IGMH did not know whether the woman had tested positive for the virus or not, and that only Health Protection Agency was privy to the information.

“Sun” has been unable to contact HPA for a comment.

The woman is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit and breathing through a ventilator, the infant is being treated at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of IGMH.

HPA last Monday night confirmed that another pregnant woman with symptoms of the H1N1 influenza is undergoing treatment.
