MDP candidate secures Nolhivaram seat at atoll council

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate has been automatically elected to the Nolhivaram seat at H. Dh. Atoll Council.

Elections Commission announced this Monday morning that only Hussain Hassan from Himeyn, H. Dh. Nolhivaram had applied for the seat, and that he had therefore been automatically elected to the seat.

EC also announced that the three Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidates who alone applied for seats at Th. Guraidhoo Council had also been automatically elected. They are:

1. Naufal Hassan, Gema, Th. Guraidhoo

2. Ali Rasheed, Finiroalhi, Th. Guraidhoo

3. Thaufeeq Ali, Hulhuveli, Th. Guraidhoo

Additional automatic elections include three independent candidates who applied for seats in M. Raihmandhoo Council and three independent candidates who applied for seats in R. Kinolhas Council.

M. Raihmandhoo Council:

1. Hussain Khaleel, Handhuvareege, M. Raihmandhoo

2. Ali Riyaz, Shaahil, M. Raihmandhoo

3. Qasim Abdulla, Oceanlead, M/ Raihmandhoo

R. Kinolhas Council:

1. Abdul Majeed Hassan, Haveyli, R. Kinolhas

2. Ahmed Hussain, Fehivilla, R. Kinolhas

3. Wafir Ahmed, Jambuge, R. Kinolhas

The two PPM candidates and one independent candidate who applied for seats at A. Dh. Dhidhdhoo have also been automatically elected. They are:

1. Hussain Yoosuf, Evening Paris, A. Dh. Dhidhdhoo (PPM)

2. Abdul Raheem Mohamed, Sadhaam Villa, A. Dh. Dhidhdhoo (PPM)

3. Gassaan Abdulla, Noovillage, A. Dh. Dhidhdhoo (independent)

1,487 candidates will be competing in the local council elections scheduled for April 15; 1,124 of whom are from political parties and 363 of whom are independent candidates.
