Sri Lankan education minister visits Maldives

Minister of Education of Sri Lanka, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam made an official visit to Maldives for discussions with his Maldivian counterpart, Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham.

Ministry of Education of Maldives reports the discussions revolved around improving the quality of education in Maldives through human resource development.

The two governments discussed additional training for principals and teachers – especially special needs teachers.

The visit also marks the first time for a Sri Lankan education minister to visit Maldives since the introduction of a multi-party system in the country in 2008.

During the meeting, Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham thanked Sri Lankan government for the assistance it has provided for the Maldivian education sector, noting that it had been the first foreign country to arrange for Islamic Studies and Dhivehi Language to be taught to Maldivian students studying abroad.

Minister Kariyawasam arrived in Maldives on March 9, upon invitation by Dr. Aishath Shiham.
