ADK doctors tour M. Atoll in awareness campaign

People living in atolls often need to travel to Male’ City to obtain medical attention from specialist doctors. But travelling to Male’ City requires money for transport, accommodation and food; things that some cannot afford.

With that in mind, ADK Hospital recently organized a tour of M. Atoll which began on March 8, during which the hospital’s pediatrician Dr. Abdulla Niyaf and dietician Mariyam Najla travelled to all inhabited islands of the atoll to disseminate information to local communities regarding healthy eating and proper diet - especially for children.

The team raised awareness regarding diseases children are susceptible to and proper diet to improve and maintain the health of children.

President of M. Dhiggaru, Imran Ismail spoke to “Sun” and noted that travelling to Male’ City was a huge challenge for many of the people on the island due to financial considerations.

He said the information session by Dr. Niyaf and Najla from ADK Hospital at the island was therefore a happy event for the community.

“About 300 people from this island alone participated in the information session. It’s really a great relief for the parents to be able to meet someone like Dr. Niyaf and clear concerns,” said Imran.

One of the parents who attended the information session said it had been very helpful in clearing up concerns.

“I am now very clear on steps to take if my child refuses to eat or has a fever or cold,” said the parent.

Marketing Manager of ADK Hospital, Mohamed Jinah reported the tour of M. Atoll was a huge success. Jinah said he believed the information sessions had been helpful to the communities.

“We received huge support for our information sessions. We want to hold more such information sessions in the atolls,” said Jinah.

ADK Hospital relayed special thanks to TFM Club in Dhiggaru, M. Atoll Council and Maldives Police Service for their assistance in organizing the event.
