Nihan: Maseeh is being pushed out to affect projects

Parliament Majority Leader, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that the no confidence motion filed by the opposition MPs today against the President of the Parliament is intended to change the vision of the major government projects being run for the people and influence the projects.

A no confidence motion against the President of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed was file with 26 signatures from all parties in the parliament was filed at the sitting today. Soon after the motion was filed, the high-ranking members of the government coalition of PPM, MDA and DRP held a joint press conference saying that the oppositions would not succeed in the motion and the coalition is “awake” to the situation.

MP Nihan said that there is no basis for a no confidence motion and so far the Parliament has been making decision on majority. Nihan said that majority ruling is the best characteristic of democracy and the President of the Parliament is just one person working within the democratic structure of the parliament.

The Majority Leader said that even with the PPM majority in the Parliament, they have been lenient with a lot of works in order to allow for opposition involvement.
