Kaadehdhoo Airport run by Villa Air Pvt. Ltd. has been handed over to Regional Airports, a division of the Economic Ministry.
The airport was taken from Villa Air in January for violating the contract.
Villa attempted to slow down the repossession by filing for a temporary order at the Civil Court. Although the motion was granted, High Court overruled the order from the Civil Court in February stating that the airport was taken from Villa Air legitimately.
Director General of Regional Airports, Samee Ageel told Sun Media today that the state has transferred the Kaadehdhoo airport operations to Regional Airports today.
He said that the handover of the operations is underway but the government have not yet decided who would be taking over. Samee said that the airport employees would retain their employment.
The Regional Airports Director previously said that the agreement with Villa Air was terminated for violating civil aviation regulations.
Kaadehdhoo Airport was given to Villa Air on 2 February 2013 but the airport was repossessed in August 2017 after a dispute between the Chairman of Villa Group Qasim Ibrahim and the Yameen government. But in the September of the same year, the airport was given back to Villa Air.
